A Traffic Stop Opened a Much Larger Mystery

A routine encounter near Philadelphia’s Independence National Historical Park eventually led investigators to a house now connected to seven missing women, five of whom police believe may be dead. The case has grown far beyond the June arrest that first brought Eugene Horsch to investigators’ attention.

Horsch, 44, was arrested after a park ranger approached an illegally parked vehicle and found weapons, drugs, forged law-enforcement credentials and identification belonging to Blair Tonzelli, a woman who had been missing since 2023, according to CBS News. Horsch faces firearms, drug and false-credential allegations; he has not been charged with killing any of the missing women.

The identification card gave police a concrete link to a disappearance. What came next turned one missing-person inquiry into a much broader investigation.

What Investigators Found Inside the Home

Law enforcement later searched Horsch’s home on West Chew Avenue in Philadelphia’s Olney neighborhood. Police said the property contained hidden spaces, chemicals, firearms-related evidence and an enormous collection of digital material.

Investigators now say they have recovered more than one million images and videos from the house. Philadelphia police have identified 58 people shown in the material, and they are still trying to determine what happened to several women whose disappearances stretch back years.

CBS News reported that seven missing women have been linked to the property. Five are believed by police to be deceased, although investigators have emphasized that no victim’s remains have been confirmed at the home.

The distinction matters. Some recovered videos appear deeply concerning, but police have cautioned that the images alone do not establish every event investigators are trying to reconstruct.

The Missing Women Became the Center of the Case

Among the women publicly linked to the house are Gabrielle Amarando, Maribel Fresses, Nicole Fusaro, Amy McHale and Tonzelli. Several had been missing for years before the search of the property brought their names into one investigation.

McHale’s family told investigators she had gone to the Olney home before she vanished in 2016. Her connection was particularly personal: she had once been married to Raymond “R.C.” Horsch, Eugene Horsch’s late father, who also lived at the property.

Police have said some of the digital material appears to show women who were later reported missing. Investigators are working to determine which recordings depict criminal conduct, which people can still be located and which images can be corroborated with other evidence.

For the families, the scale of the files does not answer the central question. Their relatives are still missing, and investigators have not yet announced homicide charges tied to their disappearances.

The FBI Is Still Reviewing the Evidence

The FBI is assisting Philadelphia police with the digital review. NBC10 Philadelphia reported that investigators had analyzed only a portion of the material as of this week, leaving hundreds of thousands of files still to examine.

Police have also located some of the people seen in the images alive. Others have interviews scheduled, while some have not cooperated with investigators. That work could help detectives separate what is documented from what only appears possible on video.

Horsch remains in federal custody on charges unrelated to the missing women’s presumed deaths. His attorney has disputed allegations connecting him to wrongdoing beyond the charges already filed.

Seven Disappearances Are Now Being Examined Together

The case remains unusually open-ended. Investigators have a house, a vast digital archive and connections to seven women whose whereabouts became mysteries at different times.

What they do not yet have is a complete account of what happened to those women. Police continue to review the evidence while families wait for answers that, in some cases, have been missing for years.
